I have tried a few other Italian courses over the last year and a half or so. This course, is the most interesting and immersive course I have found to date. Other courses are the same and seem to follow a certain way of teaching which I found did not help me, however I have noticed a more definite ability to understand and speak Italian over a shorter period which I did not have before.
I studied Spanish and Portuguese up to B2 level many years ago and I have school French so Romance languages are not new to me nor is language learning as an adult.
I started with this course as a beginner in Italian 6 months ago. I am now completing the final Platinum stage of the course. I reckon that I am now at level B1 or lower B2 in the Common European Framework language classification.
What I like about Rocket Italian: The interactive pronunciation check using the Chrome browser; practical and useful conversation topics from the start; variety of practise in each exercise, repetition, writing, translation English to Italian and repetition of the dialogue. The point scoring system which helps maintain motivation
What I do not like: Lack of attention to detail in course material particularly towards the end of each level with mistranslations, and other mistakes. When you point out the mistakes in the feedback they are corrected but it is as if they rely on their students to proof read the course. Too much English spoken in the more advanced lessons. Odd choice of what grammar points to explain. (In some lessons simple and obvious points were explained while more complex grammar items were not.
Rosetta Stone and several other courses, all picture oriented, were getting me nowhere. I'm not an infant and no longer learn is such an inefficient manner. Rocket is much better. I'm an adult- just tell me what the words mean. Guessing at what pictures are trying to tell me, not to mention deciphering sentence structure and conjugation that way is not fun!
I wanted to learn how to speak Italian because I was tired of listening to my wife and her family and not knowing exactly what they were saying. Of course they would always tell me what they had said but I always wanted to experience it first hand. I first ordered rosetta stone Italian but I wasn't pleased with their teaching method and returned immediately. I went on You tube to find reviews on a good italian program and came across a review for rocket Italian. The person who gave the review took into account a few courses but praised the rocket program over all of the ones mentioned. I then decided to order on the spot. I have not had the program for a week and have impressed my wife on how well I can read the conversation transcripts. I decided to read (in Italiano) to my father-in-law, who grew up in Italy, and he was extremely impressed with my pronounciation. THIS IS ONLY AFTER ONE WEEK!!! I try to practice every day and have my wife speak to me in italian to keep me sharp. I want to thank Rocket Languages for this opportunity to learn and reach my goal that I have set for myself. Thanks, I will keep you posted on my journey through the course.
I am two months into the Rocket Italian course and I am so far very pleased with it. The website and apps are well designed, interesting to use and encourage you to stick with the course. The lessons are at the right length for me - I can get one done a day and it's the right amount of new vocabulary and grammar each lesson for me to then learn. I find learning online, on my computer, a flexible way to learn that means I am studying more than if I was using a teacher once or twice a week.
Why do I want to learn Italian??
I asked my self so many times that question and didn't figure it out .
Finally I realized that I love that language so much and can never get it out of my head .
Rocket Italian was helpful for me, especially with that wonderful woman ( Maria Dilorenzi ) .
After all .... thanks to all your Team, specially my best teacher (Maria) .
Your Faithfully, Kareem .
I've been searching for quite a while for an online Italian course and everyone single one I've found has been lacking in various areas. Rocket covers all bases of writing, reading, listening and speaking. Having this variation keeps you interested along with all the helpful tips and the gamification using points and streaks.
What would be great is if Rocket could add video to the overall experience. One thing that is always tough when learning a new language from home and not in the country you're learning about, is not being able to picture being there. Seeing Italy through videos and pictures really helps the imagination and inspiration to learn more about the Italian language and culture.
Having got to the end of my tree in Duolingo, I was looking for something more structured that could take me to the next level. Stumbled across Rocket Languages on the internet and decided to take a chance on the free trial to see what it was like.
Overall impressions so far are very good - the course is much more in depth, and uses real people to deliver the lessons and caters for different learning styles. The points/badges system is useful for keeping up motivation, the the weekly "Rocket Fuel" emails are tailored to here you are in the course. While more expensive than Duo (i.e. not free!), I have so far found it to be very helpful - and have jumped in to the paid for version with both feet. Despite having a fairly good knowledge of some words though Duo, I have found that even in Module 1 of Rocket I am learning things that I simply haven't covered previously.
For me, the existence of an iOS app is also a key selling point, as I am rarely in front of a computer with a microphone (which is critically important if you want your attempts at speaking rated). This also lets you get in a bit of studying whenever and wherever you want. I do think that the app still needs a little more attention, but is good enough for now and I have been impressed with some fairly rapid responses from the support team.
In summary - I personally would recommend Rocket Languages, and I hope to stick with it for a long time to come!
Like many people I've tried to learn another language, in my case Dutch but didn't keep it up, in part due to the style of teaching used by my chosen 'popular' learning course.
What I like about Rocket is that everything is based around conversations which at whatever level you reach is crucial. I also like the multiple testing methods which hopefully will make things stick permanently! Finally the inclusion of the cultural pointers is very good and I'm sure it's a big part of your completeness as a speaker of your chosen language.
This is great. I have finished the first chapter and just started the second. The course moves at a good pace and I like how interactive it is and how it can record you speaking. The grammar and culture sections are brilliant and really help to instill the language learnt in the interactive lessons. I also like to understand how sentences are constructed as I find it hard to remember phrases without understanding them fully. I think these will also help me string sentences together from other vocabulary learnt later in the course. I am also relieved that the start of the second module is easier than the end of the first as I started to think I might have to slow down my pace but not so. Very fun lessons to do and easy to pick up at any time so I am more likely to stick at this than scheduled lessons.
