Sign Name?

What if I'm only learning this for fun, and I don't know any deaf people? Who should give me a sign name?

Thanks for your post, FancyPenguin028. We hope that you are enjoying the Rocket Sign Language course! As mentioned in our Introduction lesson, receiving a sign name is not something to be rushed into. You can still learn and become completely fluent in ASL without one. Hearing people are given sign names by someone Deaf as they become part of the community. There is nothing inferior about fingerspelling your name rather than having a sign name - in fact some Deaf use their spelled names as their sign names. So, for the time being, we recommend fingerspelling your name when introducing yourself. We also encourage you to check out local Deaf events where you can meet and practice your sign language with others, and maybe even get a sign name!
