How do I introduce myself to the forum ?

My name is John. I am 61 years old. Originaly from USA Buffalo NY. I started studying Mandarin about three years ago, when I met a beautiful Chinese woman on line. 2-1/2 yrs ago I traveled to meet this woman and we were married in her home City of Hunan Changsha in January 2011. This past March, 2013 we traveled to the southern Island of Hainan and purchased a new apartment in the city of Dongfang by the Sea. Thanks to RocketChinese I can have a conversation with about anyone in mandarin, with a Changsha dialect, if they speak slow enough. Learning Mandarin and marrying my Chinese wife, turned my life around for the better. Chinese wives are the best !

I studied Chinese Medicine in Yunnan many years ago. I didn't know Chinese then, but have since been studying it for about three years.

I have been to Beijing, WeiHai, Shanghai, Changsha, Guangzhou, Qingzhao, ShenZhen, Haikou, Sanya and now live in Hainan Dongfang. The only city I've been to, where they seem to speak clean pure Mandarin is Beijing. My wife is from Changsha an she destroys Mandarin, No ch or sh sounds to start words, she tells everyone she is from Cangsa, leaves off g's at ends of words, add g's where they don't belong any Hu is Fu to her, and when she talks she mixes Mandarin with Changsha Hua. My problem is I'm picking up these bad habits' When we were in Beijing people told me they could understand me, better than my wife.

Hello Im Austin. I live in China and have been here for almost a year and my wife is also Chinese. We have twins coming pretty soon. I just started learning Chinese and have found that it is still hard to remember even though I live here. But since I began this course my Chinese has become so much better in a very short amount of time.
