Lesson 2.4 Feedback

The sentences in this section have lots of new vocabulary and some of them can be quite involved. That makes the testing section much harder. I do notice that the Rocket Review quizzes us on many of the individual words. However, most of those words and phrases do not appear in the Extra Vocabulary section. If you would include this in the Extra Vocabulary section, then it would be included specifically in testing.

Robert 你好! This is why we have included the 'My vocabulary' section which allows you to pick out vocab from the texts and add them to a list. Simply highlight the word that you want to learn and select the 'abc' button that appears and you will see all examples of the word used in the current lessons as well as other lessons. Just out of curiosity, how do you usually tackle a new lesson and how do you go about learning it? - Lin Ping

I use My Vocabulary but the reason I would like to see smaller phrases included in the Extra Vocabulary is so that it will be individually tested in the testing section, e.g. "Hear It Say It!", "Write It!", and "Know It!". I also am using Rocket Spanish and they include more in their Extra Vocabulary. My approach to learning a new section is to approach it in groups. Right now, for instance, I am working on Lesson 3.4 "Phone Call", Writing Lesson 3.12 "Sun, Moon and Stars", and Lesson 3.8 "Ways to Talk About". I do this because they are all related to one another. I will also execute numerous passes over this group to gain greater and greater mastery of the material. The first thing I do is listen to the interactive audio and make notes via MyVocab of the things they say. Here I am paying close attention to the sub-phrases and the various nuances. The Rocket Review often highlights these. Then I proceed to the testing section where I drill and kill. First I drill on the "Hear It Say It". Then I do the "Write It". Then back to "Hear It Say It" and eventually to "Know It". I also often review earlier lessons this way. Often times I spend a lot of time getting over the hump while tackling some of the longer sentences. Now, if there were a way for the software to add phrases I add to MyVocab to the testing, that would be good. My suggestion is to do like Rocket Spanish does in its lessons in the Extra Vocabulary section and add the subphrases and words that the audio highlights. Once I drill and learn the simpler phrases, I mark them as easy while leaving the more difficult sentences "Needs Improvement". The software helpfully keeps drilling the "Needs Improvement" more often.

Hi Robert, Thank you for your post. We have added your feedback regarding MyVocab to our Wishlist of improvements. At the moment, we don't have any plans to add MyVocab lists to the testing, but it's good to have a record of your feedback there, for the future. I have been through the script for lesson 2.4, and actually haven't been able to find any Extra Vocab apart from what's included in the Intro and Outro. Normally this section of each IAC lesson is for any new words introduced to the lesson that are not already included in the Conversation. For example, we might teach two words that both mean "blouse" but only one of those words is actually in the Conversation. The other word for "blouse" is then added to the Extra Vocab list. However I do see what you are getting at in having the individual words listed, as well as the full sentences. I will also make a note of this, but once again it's not a change that we have planned for the near future I'm sorry. All the best!
