Caron and macron

Hello, I would like to know just if somebody has found how to input A E I O U with caron or macron using and ordinary US keyboard. This is necessary in order to do the Rocket Chinese writing exercises. Thanks,

how do I start to learn to write mandarin ?

Rocket Chinese has a writing section that you can work through. I find it very useful. Another resource is Arch Chinese (http://www.archchinese.com/). Pay attention to the concept of radicals. There are about 200+ different radicals which have specific meanings and sounds. Most of the 40000+ characters are built using these radicals.
