Error with an example of 都 in 11.5 (?)

Hi,

I am confused with an example that is provided in 11.5.  I have read this over several times to understand it and I think it's confusing because there is an error.  In the first example, “dōu” is in the pinyin, but it is not in the characters for this sentence or in the auditory when played.  Can you please check this for our understanding of this sentence and see if it needs a correction?  I am pasting it below.  Thank you very much!

The emotion expressed by 都 (dōu) “already” (e.g. anger, frustration, etc.) can usually be guessed by the context; in this case, it’s surprise.

Let’s compare another couple of examples:

会议已经结束了。
Huìyì yǐjīng dōu jiéshù le.
The meeting is already over.

会议都结束了吗?
Huìyì dōu jiéshù le ma?
The meeting is over already?
The first example simply states a fact: the meeting is over; whereas the second example shows an emotional response of disbelief to that fact.

Hi,

I am back questioning a few more typos or inconsistent pinyin.  The first two sentences are from 11.6. They do not impede with the learning or understanding, but the typos do make the translations less precise and I thought someone might want to correct these - the missing g in pengyou and the added f in gongsi.  (And their repeats in the flashcards.)

     我朋友明天就回来。
     Wǒ pényou míngtiān jiù huílái.

     歇业的百货公司就是那家。
Xiēyè de bǎihuò gōngsīf jiùshì nà jiā.

Then, in 11.7.  This sentence has huì added in the pinyin, but it's not in the auditory example or the characters so it's confusing to hear the word missing when reading the pinyin at the same time.
     我朋友真 能喝酒!
Wǒ péngyou zhēn huì néng hējiǔ!

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

There's a typo in the first pinyin word of this sentence from 12.6 in case you are interested for a correction.  :)

Thank you,

Your happy Chinese learner

Zhèl zuò gōngchǎng měitiān dōu zhìzào jǐqiān dǐng màozi.

Hi,

I wrote too soon as there is another error in 12.6. This typo in the pinyin does make the comprehension of the sentence a little confusing and could use a correction as well.   The pinyin should say haoji vs haiji, I think.  Could you please check?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello!

Could you please help with another sentence, please? It is in 13.5. I have not mastered the tonal changes, yet so I am wondering about this.  In this pinyin example, the tone for tǎngzhe has changed. I think it is a typo as I think in the auditory example, I do not hear a tone change. (But I'm not sure as it is said very quickly.) Could you please check it?

Thank you very much!

Hello,

There's an error In 13.6.  It shows the tones for noodles in pinyin one way, but in the following sentence example for it, the tones are not matching.

面条

miàntiáo

noodle(s)

她年轻的时候学过做面条。

Tā niánqīng de shíhou xué guò zuò miántiāo.

When she was young she learned how to make noodles.

Hi Jojo,

Hope you’re having a wonderful Year of the Rabbit so far!

You are once again right in pointing out both cases, and we have corrected the two errors in lessons 13.5 & 13.6.

Just a side note about 着 (zhe)’s pronunciation & tone:

While 着 (zhe) can sound differently in words such as 睡着 (shuìzháo), “to fall asleep,” and 着衣 (zhuóyī), “to get dressed,” it is always pronounced as zhe, as in 躺着 (tǎngzhe), when partnered with another verb anterior to it to indicate ongoing action, and doesn’t change the pronunciation or tone of the verb.

For example, 睡着 could be both “to be sleeping/asleep” and “to (have) fall(en) asleep” depending on context:
- 小宝贝正睡着呢! (Xiǎo bǎobèi zhèng shuìzhe ne!) “The little baby is sleeping/sound asleep.”
- 小宝贝睡着了。 (Xiǎo bǎobèi shuìzháo le.) “The little baby has fallen asleep.”

Hope that was helpful!

Hello,

If you are interested, there a sentence in 13.8 that needs a correction on a typo.  It's for the pinyin yào vs yà.

Thank you!

Hello,

Could you please check my “Extra-sort it” for lessons 15.6, 15.7 and 15.8?  I am not sure if it's just my account or if it is a problem for others as well, but is blank for me.  Shows 0/0 for Hanzi practice.  There is nothing there and I have been able to see and do the sort-it activity for all lessons prior to these.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Jo Jo,

We're sorry for any inconveniences that this caused you. The IT team has fixed this now and the Sort It! activities should be working as normal.

I hope this helps!
