How Do I Space Punctuation in My Chinese Writing?!?

I'm really struggling in my writing currently, not because of tones or misspelled pinyin, but because of the punctuation discrepancies. I don't understand why I keep getting marked wrong, and can't find any rules on where to put my commas or periods in sentences. Would anyone be able to tell me how many spaces go between words and punctuation, because at this point I'm at a loss! Here's a picture for example:

My spacing on this sentence was marked incorrect.

Thanks,

Hannah

I noticed the same thing. I think you can rest easy, as this seems to be an issue with their system, not your usage of spaces. There are two sets of punctuation on your computer; the one we're using right now, and another one for chinese that is wider (and therefore more … spacious), and they seem to be comparing against the “wrong” punctuation.

(As far as I know, pinyin should use latin style punctuation, not Chinese? I might be wrong, but in any case, they should not expect us to be able to type Chinese style punctuation when writing pinyin.)

Until they fix this, I'd say, just ignore the marks on punctuation, and continue typing it as you would normally. It sucks to lose points on such technicalities, but in the end it doesn't matter. Good luck!

Thanks so much, glad to know it's a system glitch! I really don't care about perfect marks in that area, so long as I mark tones correctly and spell pinyin rightly.

All the best with your language learning!

Thanks Margaret! Glad to know the problem may be fixed in the not too distant future. (:
