Writing on a notebook

Hello! I was wondering yesterday about my methods of learning.

I have a notebook, that is currently being used to write what I have been doing, or some specific characteristic of Chinese.

But I thought that maybe it would be interesting to write some words, maybe even in hanzi in the notebook, in order to memorize in a better way.

Anyone that does it, or has experience with such technique, can advise me? Thank you!

Hello Petros Stauros,

I hope you are enjoying Chinese! I started off with a notebook, but then Rocket Chinese came along and shortly after, I also discovered Tofulearn - I store words on both sites. Now I only use my notebook for phrases, grammar rules or words that I find difficult (and need the writing for reinforcement). I like how if you are out of your home, you most likely have your phone and both apps are in easy reach for practice. I rarely take my notebook out of the house. I have a habit to always be on one of those apps when in a queue, never on idle without an app open unless I left my phone behind. My kids say I am a screen-ager.  :) I like how you can save vocab words and practice writing on Rocket, but I do seem to prefer to practice vocab lists and writing characters on Tofulearn. I have friends that say Anki or Pleco is their preferred method or app, but I like how Tofulearn is free and so many lists are readily available to practice right away and I like the appearance - the characters are large and I like seeing color on the pages. It makes it seem fun so this is what works for me. You have to find what works best for you and keeps you motivated. I wish you luck!  :)

Hello Jo Jo,

Thank you for sharing some of these methods! I guess I will keep only writing important and parts of the learning process, also because of my experience with other languages, where I lost valuable time of contact with the language because of writing down too much and also because of creating way too much Anki cards.

I like Anki cards for Chinese, but I will take a look at Tofulearn too. I will also install the Rocket Chinese app (I didn't know about it).

I feel this kind of practice when waiting in public is the most important. Thank you! ;)
