Pronunciation

Hi fellow French people :) As a new french learner my biggest problem is with pronunciation. It seems like there are only a certain number of sounds in the language, and they overlap all the time! For example: mais et mai There are things like this all the time. When I am listening to the audio tracks I find it hard to translate, because things sound so similar. Will my ear adjust over time, any tips? Merci!

I had the same problem when I first started. All words seemed to blend together. On longer phrases I listen to the first half of the sentence. Once I understand the first half I then work on the second half. You always have to listen to the whole phrase, but you can work on sections in the phrase and you have the text with the recording. Watching movies or songs on u-tube in French with French subtitles helps train your ear.
