Hallo Robindale, Schön name! Ich lebe jetzt nahe Köln kommen aus New Zork. Ich bin Musiker und habe einige Konzerte hier mit einer neuen Gruppe in Marz und May. Ja ist Berlin eine kühl (cool!) Stadt. Munich und Bavaria auch. Sehr schön. No apologies necessary. I am making all kinds of mistakes, i'm sure! I am excited now because i just figured out how to get my computer keyboard to type the German Ümlauts etc, and i'm not much of a computer-phile. I clicked on Control Panel and then clicked on Change Keyboard under Clock and Languages then clicked Change Keyboard then was able to click on Add, to add the German one. Now i can switch between the English and German keyboards by pressing ALT & SHIFT at the same time! Pretty neat. Thought you might want to know how i got all those nifty Ümlauts in my message! Hallo Brad! LOL Ja, jetzt bin ich Robindale! It is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. When I was in school (long before computers) we used typewriters. To indicate that an umlaut was there we typed an 'e' right after the vowel that had the umlaut. I will probably never be able to break that habit! I know some things have changed in German, for example I've heard that Fraulein is rarely used anymore and may even be considered an insult. It could be the case with leben and wohnen. We used the verb leben to mean 'to live as in to be alive'. Wohnen was used to mean 'to live as in to reside someplace'. Perhaps you or someone else knows if that distinction is still true. How exciting to be giving a concert in Germany! All this German review is making me want to speed up our trip, but we are planning summer of 2014. Sigh! Long way away! Hi guys, Regarding the keyboard, you shouldn't even have to do that. There should be a little keyboard icon on the bottom of your screen and if you click that, it pops up another little icon with the umlauted letters and the ezzet. At least that's how it works for me with Windows 7. I didn't have to do anything with the control panel although I know what you are talking about. I just assumed the keyboard option was a feature that Rocket provided for us. Maybe not though although I don't see it with any other applications. I used to be pretty nerdy but now I'm tired of keeping up with all the latest release and features so I guess I don't really know how my keyboard option got there. Also, there are control keys you can use to type umlauts. You can look them up. I'm going to treat myself to another trip when I finish my Platinum and review everything. That will probably be 2014.

Hallo Byron und Brad! LOL! Einer Graubart bedeutet nichts! Sie koenten vor der Zeit (vorzeitig? vorzeitlich?) grau sein. Mein Ehemann hattet fast eine Glatze und war nur siebenundzwanzig! Ich bin auch im Ruhestand! Ich habe fuer einundzwanzig Jahre meine Kinder zu Hause unterrichten (homeschooled). Meine jungstete (gotta look up how to use superlative adjectives) Tochter ist von September in Universitaet. Der ganzer Tag ist mein! Had anyone asked me what the German word for 'beard' was, I might not have remembered. However when I saw it, I recognized it! Ah, beard, a gray beard! Reaching waaaaay back into my memory ... I vaguely remember that in the nominative case if there is no article the adjectives indicate what the article. Now Ruhestand! That is a brand new word for me. Love it! Thanks!

Hallo Brad und Byron (und irgendjemand auch!) Ich komme auf einen Gedanken! Jeder Woche schreiben wir einen kurzen Paragraf ueber ein Thema. Wir koennen jeder Woche abwechseln. Ich waehle die erste Woche. Die zweite Woche ist Brad. Die dritte is Byron. Oder umgekehrt. Dann koennen wir unsere Deutche ueben. Was sagen Sie? Eine gute Idee? Wenn Sie wollen, koennen wir anfangen. (Just in case I've totally messed up my German in the paragraph above: I have an idea. Each week let's pick a topic to write about. Nothing complicated, just a short paragraph on a specified topic. We can alternate each week who chooses the topic. I can start, then the next week Brad and the next Byron or vice versa since Byron is retired (and presumably has more time ... lol, we know how that goes) and Brad is still working. (I think.) Anyone else who wants to can also join in. If someone sees an error and they know the correct way to say it, then they can correct it so we can improve our German and increase our vocabulary. What was the verb for switch or change again? I did very little conversational English. It was all military stuff and as I said that was 30(+) years ago! Today is Friday.
