Warum schriebt niemand in der Deutschen Sprache? Diese Seite ist für Deutsche üben. Wir müssen probieren sowie wir besser bekommen.

Das Problem ist, dass jemand muss überwachen und korrigieren unsere Fehler. Ansonsten erfahren wir sehr wenig. You and I can, for example, look up words and phrases with any of the on line translators, put them together and carry on a dialogue. But, will it be correct German? Understandable maybe, but probably not good. That's the fatal flaw. We need a native speaker to monitor all the dialogs and I haven't seen that happen yet.

Hi Byron, You make a good point. I guess I have an advantage in that my wife was born and raised in Germany before coming to the U.S., although I don't refer everything to her scrutiny as I try to figure it out myself. Personally I'm not seeking to sound like a native right away, but mainly to be understood. As with the majority of foreigners that come here, it's true that they speak incorrectly, but at least they can communicate; the polishing comes in later years through usage of the language. You are correct in that there seems to be a lack of official input from staff. Out of curiosity, I went back several years to 2008 on this site and found an post to Nathalie, a monitor at that time. I had extended the invitation for when next in the U.S., to visit AL, since my wife is also German. Her response to thank me for the invite was dated 2011, a little over three years later. Aside from that, in the heading of this portion of the Rocket program, they do encourage using the language in the context of social intercourse ie, "Conversations in German" etc.. They even state not to worry about making mistakes as we can help each other.

Hi Marvin, Yes, that would be a marvelous advantage. I envy you as you will get fluent in a hurry and I probably never will. However, I will keep on plugging away regardless. I think RG does a really good job for the money with the staff they have, but the response to Forum conversations is rather haphazard and often slow or even totally lacking. We've had a number of side conversations recently where it would have been helpful if a native speaker could have weighed in. That said, I'm up for some conversation particularly if your wife would be good enough, from time to time, to spot check and correct major errors. Also, lassen Sie uns beginnen. Hi Marvin and Elsa, Thank you for taking the time. I'm not at all discouraged, but not sure I totally understand. I was trying to say I was Midwest born and raised. So in German one needs to say "raised there, i.e. dort aufgewachsen? OK "I will become 75" not "will be". Als/wenn I guess I need to study up on that. It's still not clear to me when to use them. meiner, yes that was a careless mistake. Thanks for taking the time, Elsa. Marvin, I understand your text perfectly without any translator assistance.

Byron, I talked with Elsa and she explained Als/wenn this way. Als has reference to the past and Wenn is, as many times in the Bible, If you will do this, then.... A kind of conditional If/then context. Ex. Wenn die Sonne scheint, dann gehe ich Spazieren. Hope I got it right and that it helps.

Thanks both of you. I'm mostly getting it. Wann is strictly time. Als is the narrative past, and wenn is like "if" in English although it sometimes is used with the narrative present and that is where it gets a little confusing. So to my point earlier, to be a really helpful learning tool, correspondence requires an instructor. I'm away for a long weekend, my birthday. I'll tell you about it, auf Deutsch, when I get back.

Hi Byron and Marvin, The best way to get a quick response is to post your question under a new topic with your question in the title. Questions asked in a blog chat are easily overlooked. I am permitted to a maximum of two hours a week to read and answer all language related forum posts. I also wait to give other users the chance to demonstrate their knowledge but there is no need to be present in all forum posts. Users like earning points and it's nice to see what they have learned. Now to the reason why I am commenting to this one. I am not sure with Elsa suggestion about the 'ich war geboren.' I haven't heard that version before but maybe it is a regional thing in daily speech. 'Ich bin/wurde im Westen geboren und bin dort aufgewachsen.' is the common way. Thanks Paul. I understand your situation. I think I will suggest to Jason that two hours per week is not enough time to cover all the questions. I don't think anyone expects an instant turnaround, I know I don't, but 6 weeks seems a bit much. I enjoy helping out whenever I can with the easier questions, but for the difficult points of usage, we need a native speaker. I also agree it is hard to find the threads sometimes. How did we ever manage without the computers that get us to the Wikipedia? That is the bigger question. I can remember hearing when computers first came out how they were going to eliminate the amount of paper files... That must have been someone's delusional thinking. LOL

I remember that too. I think possibly it has reduced the number of paper files a company has, but it hasn't reduced the amount of paper generated. I did read that Microsoft, or maybe it was Google, banned printers in their offices except for the legal department which is one of the last bastions of hard copy files. I used to work for General Mills. We converted all of the recipes, well over 200,000 to a computerized database.

I work for a company that generates junk mail, which is A LOT of paper!

Hallo alle, Ich bin noch versuchen Deutsch zu lernen. Doch, ich habe wurden slacking in mein practice. Ich hoffe zu wieder reisen zum Berlin nächste jahre für mein zwanzig jahre marraige anniversary. So practice ich muss. Hilfe würde groß sein. Mein Deutsch ist noch nicht sehr gut. My frustration is that I can go over this website and nothing seems to stick in my brain and I stop studying for a while. Any suggestions on how I can supplement learning? Jason

Hi Jason H, I think we've all felt some frustration over not being able to learn a language more quickly. It's tempting to think that you can study for maybe an hour a day and become proficient in about 6 weeks. Of course, the companies selling language studies don't discourage this thought either. The sad truth is that it takes thousands of hours to master a skill, including learning a language. So, when I say you may need to adjust your expectations a bit, I don't mean it at all unkindly. That said, there are all kinds of ways to learn a language and I think other than marrying a German lady, like our colleague Marvin, I've tried them all: college courses, books, CDs, on line courses, free language sites, etc. I don't believe, perhaps other than total immersion, there are any shortcuts to learning a language and I don't believe there is any way to avoid repetition. To that end, I feel that Rocket with the Say It, Know It, Write It, and Play It exercises are more effective than anything else I've tried. So, my advice is fool around with some other web sites when you get bored with Rocket, but basically stick to Rocket. You won't be speaking like a native next year, but you'll be able to exchange pleasantries, order a meal, read the really important signs and you'll have a great time in Germany.

Hallo Jason H, ich denke, der beste Weg Deutsch zu lernen ist viel zu lesen - und das neben einem Programm wie rocketlanguages.com. Dabei spielt es keine Rolle was, Hauptsache, regelmäßig... Besser 15 min täglich als einmal die Woche zwei Stunden! Genauso wie beim Sport gilt es regelmässig und weniger ist mehr als viel und nur sporadisch. Ich kann es sagen, denn ich lernte Englisch auf diesem Wege. Dabei ist noch TV-Schauen erwähnenswert. Hier könnt ihr auf eure Computer software runterladen, es ist sicher (Chip.de ist eine deutsche Computerzeitschrift und die Software dort wurde geprüft). Ich finde, dass die neue Sprache 'besser hängen bleibt', wenn man sie sozusagen von oben nach unten lernt, d.h., viel lesen, nicht alles gleich übersetzen, sondern nur die Worte, die oft vorkommen, und sich zwingen immer vorwärts, dies soll aber täglich geschehen. Auch Filme, wie deutsche DVDs aus der public library in Deutscher Sprache sind wunderbar, aber nur, wenn man sie zuerst in Deutsch anschaut, und versucht zu verstehen ohne das Wörterbuch zu benutzen, immer vorwärts, wie ich sagte. So was bringt sehr viel, man bekommt Gefühl für die Melodie der Sprache oder man lernt die berühmten Floskeln, die man so nicht lernt, Phrasen sind sprach-typisch, man kann sie meist nicht verlässlich übersetzen, es klingt ulkig. Also hier der Link, um deutsches TV zu schauen und ich hoffe, ich verstöße nicht gegen die Regeln, wenn ich den Link reinkopiere. Netflix hat viel Films und Series das du kannst im Deutsche Sprache schauen dir. Ich studiere Deutsch mit Rocketglanguages schon seit sieben Montanten und kann jetzt verstehe genug.   Entschuldige fur meine schrecklich Deutsch, aber ich denke dass ich muss die Sprache gebrauchen zu lernen, auch mit Fehlern.

Netflix hat viele Filme und Serien die du dir in Deutscher Sprache anschauen kannst. ​Ich studiere Deutsch mit Rocketglanguages schon seit sieben Monaten und kann jetzt genug verstehen.   Entschuldige mein schreckliches Deutsch, aber ich denke, dass ich die Sprache gebrauchen lernen muss, auch mit Fehlern.

Ich habe irgendwo gelesen , dass sich in der Lage zu versetzen, zu versuchen, in der neuen Sprache zu kommunizieren, eine gute Möglichkeit, das Lernen zu beschleunigen. Ich meine, im Vergleich zu nur Vokabellisten zu lernen. Dies ist, was Ich mag über die Rocket- Deutschkurs - es lehrt in Sätzen und nicht nur Worte und Regeln. Ich bin neu im Forum zu schreiben und begrüßen alle Korrekturen oder Vorschläge für Verbesserungen.
