Hallo, i am learning lesson 2.4 Travelling on Business and encounter these two sentences:
Ich muss zum Hotel Adlon and Ich muss zum Hotel Adlon fahren.

Is this fahren a typo mistake or do we need to add it when we say: Ich muss zum Hotel Adlon fahren?

Danke.

If I understand correctly, with modal verbs, the main verb can be omitted when it is clear that motion is involved.
So here, müssen is the modal verb, the main verb is fahren and also  zum Hotel Adlon makes it clear what is intended.

So both sentences are OK

Hi Linie und sfpugh,

Modal verbs like müssen are often used in conjunction with another word to complete the meaning of the sentence. However, the sentence above clearly shows that there is a type of movement involved as suggested by sfpugh above.

This slightly changes the meaning of the sentence.
Saying "Ich muss zum Hotel Adlon." puts more emphasis on the importance of getting there whereas "Ich muss zum Hotel Adlon fahren." gives you more information on the type of movement which is involved.

Viele Grüße
Julia

Hallo,
I also have just finished module 2, and was wondering the same thing. so I looked it up in my German dictionary and from what I understand fahren can be used in a number of different sentences when applied to " going somewhere" or "someplace".
