Pen friend

As I have said before I have a German pen friend. She writes in English, but puts in German words or sentences. Really great as it is increasing my vocabulary. She used the word “Ferien” - vacation. I have learnt “urlaub”. I could ask her the difference and she explained them. Apparently can be used interchangeably, but Ferien refers to school holidays. If you enjoy corresponding I urge you to get someone that you can correspond with. Eventually I am hoping to be able to write more in German. ( I am a complete beginner) but can put in words here and there, very encouraging and helps to keep me motivated, I also learn more about Germany and culture

Hallo sebongela!

That's great that you have found someone to talk to in German and help you to put what you are learning here at Rocket German into practise. Keep up the great work!

That is awesome Sebongela!

I was just recently thinking of doing the same thing! Where did you look to find a penpal? Do you write letters (snail mail) or do you text/email? That is a really cool idea.

Hi MeghanG4

Good to hear from you. I used a formal website initially. Global penfriends. I am learning German ( beginner) and Italian on second level. So you create a profile, password etc and then you can connect with someone or they find you. Connected with a German lady from Germany and an Italian lady living in Germany. Wrote back to both. One in basic Italian and English to the German lady. The Italian lady never wrote back, but the German one and I write regularly. Her English is excellent ( thank goodness) and as some of my German has come back to me and using Rocket I can say some things and she now puts in some German sentences. Initially we corresponded through the website, but the format was annoying, so after we felt comfortable with one another we exchanged emails. Really enjoy her correspondence and get to also know more about life in Germany.
