HI Girish
I am no expert but I have worked out that the verb generally has to take the second position in a sentence unless you are asking a question or telling someone to do something in which case it comes first. E.g. Du läufst schnell nach Rathaus. (You walk fast to the town hall) but Läufst du schnell nach Rathaus? (Do you walk quickly to the town hall?) and Läufst du schnell nach Rathaus! (Walk quickly to the town hall!)
If you have another word like heute or sowieso or im moment at the start of the sentence, the verb still comes second which means that the subject has to go after the verb. E.g. Heute fahre ich nach Berlin. If you have a modal verb plus infinitve, the modal verb comes second as usual but the infinitive always goes to the end of the sentence. E.g. Ich möchte nach Berlin fahren.
If you have subordinate or dependent clauses, the rules change a bit.
You may have found all this out by now anyway.
