In the past few months have been concentrating on Rocket German and doing the minimum Italian, was quite shocked to realize that I was struggling to have language and pronunciation flow smoothly. Therefore have realized that I need to concentrate on both languages  more or less evenly. Was even surprised how some of the vocabulary and basic concepts were no longer just there, but felt foreign and uncomfortable or had left my basic memory completely. In other words if you don't use it you loose it. I used to speak Afrikaans fluently, but no longer go to South Africa and basically have to think really hard to speak fluently. So it is back to practice, practice, practice

Hi Sebongela

I hope you're well.  I couldn't learn two languages at once, as I find progressing and revising in one language at a time challenging enough!  I knew native speakers who forgot large parts of their language after 25 years of living in Los Angeles!  Mainly though, I love Italian compared to the other languages I studied, so that's my main motivation for sticking with one.

A presto

Chris

Hi ChrisM108

Am well just keeping up with language  studies and soon out into the garden. Am looking forward to that. Am hoping to do so travelling some time this year, but not sure where to yet. Also depends on travel rules and restictions. Don't want to have to do that dance.

Am finding some of the long words challenging in Level 2 conversations. QUite the tongue twisters at times. Just keep on revising until they feel more natural. German pronunciation much easier, due to Afrikaans. I have realized that I now speak 5 languages, obviously some better than others and am quite pleased with that. Although Afrikaans only used in South Africa and my neighbours.

Read an interesting article recently. People that speak 15 languages (Can't even imagine that). Their take on it is reading ,speaking, listening, and Vocabulary. I have to agree with that. My Portuguese grammar not always correct, but it has never stopped me speaking. So even if I have to cobble along in Italian and German am okay with that.

I really hope Rocket brings in Play the Part Italian, it really is very practical far more so than Travelogue.

A presto and ciao

Sebongela

Ciao Maxie,

It's great that you're recognizing the importance of regularly practicing both languages. Consistency is key when it comes to language learning, and as you've noticed, using a language regularly helps you retain and improve your skills.

When learning multiple languages, it's not uncommon to experience interference or a slight decrease in fluency in one language if you focus more on another. However, with consistent practice, you'll quickly get back on track.

Setting aside time each day to practice both Rocket German and Rocket Italian will help you maintain and improve your language skills in both languages. Whether it's through conversations, listening to native speakers, reading, or writing, any form of practice will contribute to your language development.

Also, consider incorporating both languages into your daily life, such as labeling objects in your home in both German and Italian or watching movies and shows in both languages. The more you immerse yourself in the languages, the more natural and fluent they will become.

Keep up the dedication and practice, and you'll see significant progress in both languages.

In bocca al lupo! (Good luck!)
