I'm leading a wine tasting tomorrow and one of the wines is
malvasia bianca. When I search on the web I see confilicting
opinions on which syllable to stress. Is there a "correct"
pronunciation?
What is the correct pronunciation of "malvasia bianca?"

Bear in mind that all "a" sounds in Italian are pronounced " ar".
As in car. So instead of saying Mal as in pal it woul be
marl....then vars Eeya.
Bianca, meaning White is pronounced again with the a sound as ar not as in cat....as we do for the girls name Bianca....its BEE ARN CAR. does that helpr .
So we have MARL...VAR SEE AR.. said quicker of course... Then BEE ARN CAR. For.bianca
good luck...hope that helps... Diana

Thanks for the pointer about pronouncing the "a," but does anyone
have an opinion about where to place the stress? I've seen sites
that stress the second (uh, Wiki...), and the third syllable.

Ciao Steve.....Most Italian words have the stress on the second
last syllable . The stress is on the " var" part of the word
Malvasia . With the Bianca it definitely is on the second last
syllable... Bi A nca

Ciao Diana,
the best way to pronounce it is :
malvazia bee-an-kuh
As Grahame correctly suggest, please refer to google translate and listen to the pronunciation making sure that you select Italian as the language.
I hope this helps.

Forvo.com is also a great source for finding words pronounced by real people. If the word or phrase you want is not already in their vast collection, you can request a recording. I've done this several times and have always gotten a response within 24 hours. Then, the new recording becomes a part of forvo's ever-growing database of audio samples. It's a great tool.
