Okay, so I've been doing the Japanese lessons but I feel like I'm mostly just memorizing each conversation.
As in, if I heard a certain Japanese word in a different context than the lessons, I wouldn't recognize it or it would take me a while to recognize it. I've been doing Rocket Japanese for a little over 2 months. Does anyone else have this problem?
Just memorizing the conversation?

This is the main reason why RJP uses the same words in different contexts. After using one word in 2-3-4 different contexts, it'll automatically be imprinted in your mind with both the meaning and the way it is used in sentences.
However, this will take a little more than just 2 months of practice. Also try to complement with music, TV, anime and manga where you should try to recognize the words.
I can say that only at the last part of stage 2 of RJP premium do you get the hang of it. So all you need to do is to practice.

A good idea is to practice as often as much, while words may not necessarily stick with you outside of context in the beginning, they will start to be more recognizable in other ways in the future.
I highly recommend though that you try to keep a Japanese diary, forming your own sentences and trying to utilize the grammar you have been learning. A recommended site for this would be Lang-8.com.
