salut tout le monde. I am just wondering what je me souviens means on the license plates that come from Quebec. as I see them come down interstate 95 going to Florida. Does it mean "i remember? and if so, what is it that they remember? Just curious. merci , gary

Salut Gary,
"Je me souviens" is often used during Remembrance Day ceremonies, the French rendition of "Lest we Forget".
It is said that when a French Canadian says Je me souviens, he/she remembers the fact that he belongs to a conquered people.
That one line actually expands to say the following:
"We do not forget, and will never forget, our ancient lineage, traditions and memories of all the past."

Salut Gary,
Being from Ottawa, I believe most Francophones believe the expression refers to the battle on the Plains of Abraham just outside of Quebec were New France lost it's independence to the English. The expression on the plates was applied by the Quebec separatists when they were in power in Quebec.
At least that is my take on the licence plate :)
