I hadn't heard of Spiral but checked it out just now and discovered that Series 8 has been transmitted in France and that it should be available on BBC4 soon.  I will keep an eye out for it.

Can anyone suggest any other French language films or documentaries (with or without sub titles) to look out for.

I have been listening to lots of French podcasts and radio programmes and will  put a list at the end of this post in case anyone is interested.

I love that series.    I also liked the series -  ‘Un village français ’.    

You can, as of this post,  find ‘ Echappées belles ‘ and ’ Des Racines et des Ailes ' on YouTube.  I like to turn on the closed captioning in French.  

Lots of other great series.   Some good ones on Netflix.  On many you can set the captions to French.

I've set my TiVo box to record the series.

Wow, you already have season 8.   Season 7 recently became available in the US on MHZ prime. I'm not sure what other options there may be for viewing in my location.

Is it available only on Netflix outside France?

I'm pretty sure it hasn't appeared on UK terrestrial or Virgin channels, and I don't subscribe to Netflix.

In the US continental it was available to stream via ‘Sundance Now’ under the name of ‘The Bureau’.  I got this as an Amazon Prime Channel.  It wasn't on Netflix here.  Perhaps the licensing requirements / rights vary by region?  

There were 5 seasons available as of the end of 2020.  There's talk of a 6th in 2021 – I hope so! There are many high quality French shows available here - but access requires use of a variety of sources – each having its own subscription cost etc.    

For example, both MHZ Prime and Walter Presents offer several good shows.  Both are available as Amazon Prime channel addons for a  very small fee ( if you have Amazon Prime ).  For example, I get  Spiral ( Engrenages ) via MHZ Prime.
