Comment vous appelez-vous
Is the s in vous sounded out when spoken in this sentence? I can't distinguish this when listening.

Yes, it's liaisoned (subject-verb) so the s is pronounced.

tourasan- Thank you. I will obtain a French grammar book. Surely this is a common function. I expect to find future common grammatical functions. Can you recommend a book that I could refer use to read about such rules? ....Thank you again for answering, Dave

No problem Dave-M39, to be honest, I haven't found a good grammar book that also delves into the spoken aspect of French in detail. The Grammaire Progressive du Français series is better than most because they at least have some pronunciation tips from time to time (marked by a musical note symbol). I also have Véronique Mazet's "Correct Your French Blunders" as a reference, but it's more of an "occasional source" than a reference book.

For liaisons, this About . com link isn't bad (also go through the "Learn More" section in red): http://french.about.com/library/pronunciation/bl-liaisons.htm
