"Ce" is the masculine form of "this", "ça" is roughly the equivalent of "that" or "it". So, for instance, if you want to ask the price of a book, you would say: Combien coûte ce livre ? Combien ça coûte ? (and point to it) Du/de/des can be a complicated discussion because it's used for possession, location, quantity ("some"), so my advice is to take it one step at a time. The basic rule for possession is that "du" is roughly a contraction for "de + le". So, to show possession for a book, you would say: le livre de Maisarah - Maisarah's book le livre du garçon - The boy's book (you wouldn't say " le livre de le garçon") le livre de la fille - The girl's book If your name started with a vowel, that would be contracted: le livre d'Anne - Anne's book. Here's an older thread on "du" vs "de" on nationalities: http://members.rocketlanguages.com/your-community/french-grammar/du-vs-de
