What is the difence between je regrette and je suis désolé
and which one is more convinient

I would say the uses would be much like in English. I regret not doing something, so you are sorry you did not do something but it does not come through as an apology. I'm sorry you are asking somebody to forgive you.

yes, it's just like in English. There is only a subtle difference bewteen "I regret" and "I'm sorry" and it's the same in French with "je suis désolé" and "je regrette".
