Hi, i'm on 1.4 and the words:
j'ai besoin and boisson in the same sentence are really confusing me. They just sound so similar. Any tips on how to move past this?

I think you'll get the hang of the pronunciation with practice because they sound quite different. The "oi" (wah) sound is on the second syllable in besoin [beh-swah(n)] and in the first syllable in boisson [bwah-soh(n)].

Great explanation Torusan! Taylor, don't fret too much about not being able to distinguish all of the sounds in French straight away. The more exposure you get to the language, the more your ear will become accustomed to the sounds and the easier it will be for you to differentiate similar sounds.
