Where does time go.

Hi All

Am stressing at the moment, as language learning has just been at a stand still. That time of the year and just have such a long to do list, that I'm afraid until the New Year it is all just going to have to take a back seat. Did go into town early before the shops opened, spent 2 hours in  a coffee shop and did some book learning, felt amazing! We have a small coffee shop run by a Austrian/ Swiss couple. The make amazing German cakes and pastries. Between them they speak 5 languages. Makes me envious, but am determined to get there. I am now learning Swedish too.

This time of year is indeed busy for a lot of people, so don't worry if you have to take a step back and simply enjoy the holiday season so you can come back refreshed and ready to get back into language study in the new year! You could always put some German (Christmas) music on in the meantime :)

I have enjoyed my Christmas. My German penfriend sent me a beautiful Christmas Carol/ hymn in German with subtitles. I hadn't heard that one and it was lovely. I often listen to German music, but my German is not advanced enough to understand it all, but words that intrigue me I look up. Some of the Wandeln Lieder are very similar to my Afrikaans heritage. My father was Afrikaans and my mother English. I find German has some similarities to Afrikaans. Also some false friends. “Wie” in Afrikaans means who. I was initially confused by telling the time in German, but then suddenly realized it is the same in Afrikaans and so are numbers. So at least some of it familiar and easy

PS We have had the most amazing white Christmas here on Vancouver Island, not common so extra special
