You will need another legal document to prove your identity at the police station. (casual, singular)

I found the translation of this sentence confusing as it makes it sound as though Nachweis should be a verb.

Would be clearer what is going on if the translation was something like:
"You will need another legal document for proof of your identity at the police station. (casual, singular)"

thanks a lot for pointing this out.

In fact, it is quite common in German to use a noun where you would use a verb in English. Germans love their seemingly endless nouns!
To demonstrate this, we chose this translation.

Thank you for the explanation. With regard to deiner Identität, would that be genitive? I thought that "for proof of" brought that out.

Yes, deiner Identität would be a Genitiv. :)
