Course Structure

Hello, I am new to this platform and have a question about the structure of the course.

The introduction had one audio lesson which was very easy, then the language and culture and survival kit which were much more difficult, possibly too much vocab to take in at this level without context.

Then lesson one in module one was then very easy again and didn't use anything learnt in L&C and Survival kit. It seems strange to learn all of the days, weeks, months, new year, christmas etc before learning how to intriduce yourself. There were many words like kaufhaus and many I can't remember (whipped cream) introduced before Guten Tag.

Is this how the course is supposed to be structured or am I using it incorrectly? (I just worked though the tasks in order but found the flashcards for many randon words in language and culture very difficult).

Thanks for the help.

Hallo MichaelBurke,

Welcome to Rocket German - it's great to have you here!

Seeing and and hearing so many new words at the very start can be overwhelming! Don't worry about having to memorise all of the vocab in the L&C and Survival kit lessons for now :) The first L&C lesson for instance introduces words like “whipped cream” and “department store” to give you a feel for how German consonants and vowels are pronounced.

You can introduce yourself using the vocab you have learnt in the intro module, e.g.

“Hallo, ich heiße Michael." - “Hello, my name is Michael.”

“Hallo” is the most common way to greet someone in Germany. “Guten Tag” is also very common but it is much more formal.

How you work through the course is entirely up to you. You can work through it in order but if some bits are too difficult at the moment, focus on what works best for you for now :)

Viele Grüße ("Greetings")

Julia
