From 17.3 Max und Mortiz
Die, anstatt durch weise Lehren Sich zum Guten zu bekehren,

Why is Sich caplitalised here? Is it an error?
I googled the Max und Moriz story this comes from and I can see that Sich is the start of a new Line in the original and I guess that new lines start with a capital letter in poetry?

Und sich heimlich lustig machten -

Ja, dazu ist man bereit!

Hi sfpugh,

It looks like it's just the style of the poem. In poetry the poet may choose to start each line with a capital letter even though it would be a grammatical error. You can also find poems which don't have any capitalisation of nouns for instance.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the explanation which works if the poem is in its original format, in the lesson it is all one line so "Sich" is an anomaly.

Hallo sfpugh,

I can totally understand that not having the original format of the poem makes it difficult to understand the capitalisation and thank you for letting us know about this problem. We have updated the lesson to reduce further confusion.

Grüße
Julia
