Hi David,

Thank you for your posts.  Our apologies for any confusion caused.  I just wanted to let you know that the Play It tests are back up and working again now.  Please give them a try, and let me know if you have any trouble.

In regards to the My Vocab list, I have been in touch with a colleague in the IT team who will check and make sure that everything is working correctly.  I will be in touch soon to pass on his comments.

Thanks again!

Thanks Margaret,  You always respond so quickly in this German course.  Do you perhaps know who, if anyone is monitoring the Chinese course.  I just bought them for both my son and I based on my favorable assessment of the German course.

But I have yet to receive any response to several questions I've asked there and I see questions from other students that have been standing for quite some time without response.  I know you are a small firm, and I was a CEO of a firm I started so I know how pressed resources can be.  Perhaps, you can drop by over there and handle or pass on some simple questions.

Thanks so much.
Vielen Dank

Gracias.

Thanks again for your quick responses Margaret.  I just checked my email and see many responses to comments I've only sent a few hours ago. And several fixes already made to my accounts.

I am really so glad I bought the three German courses and the Chinese courses for my son and I.  I

I hope my many questions, comments, and suggestions for improvement are not discouraging to you in any way, but rather are seen as a sign of the great value I have experienced and potential I see.

Your whole team has designed an excellent product and created a learning community that I see great opportunities for and I am glad to be part of.

Please convey my appreciation to your development team and moderators who I am concerned might misunderstand my many suggestions for improvements.

Thank you all and please keep up the great work

Hi David,

Thank you for your kind feedback.  Please be assured that the team and I sincerely appreciate any comments that you or any of our other learners send through to us, so please don't feel like you are bothering us with it.  I'm so pleased to hear that you are enjoying your courses!  If there is anything else we can help with, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Quick followup: In regards to the MyVocab audio, I just wanted to let you know that the IT team definitely have this on their list, and I hope to have something to pass onto you within the next few days.  All the best!

Thanks Margaret,  I don't know if you saw my note to one of the other students who originally reported this problem.  I found a solution which I describe in more detail elsewhere, this morning.

In short, My Vocab works fine as is if one enters the Chinese characters for the word.  If fact, if one only enters a copy of the Chinese, My Vocab will actually look and automatically fill in both the Pin Yin and English.

I can see now that the original programmers thought this is the logical way of doing it and this would be how students would enter words. They didn't anticipate that students would enter Pin Yin,  so apparently did not extend the look up code to recognize and process all the tone markings leading to errors in the case the word has other variations of accent marks for tones.  (Which is a lot, so they should fix it) however, it may not be as urgent as some other improvements now that we know to enter the Chinese characters.

I described how one does it and it is easy fairly easy one gets into the habit. There may be occasional snafus in longer and more complicated sentences because Chinese has different word order so a student may not immediately always be able to find the related Chinese characters if primarily using Pin Yin, which I believe most of us new students naturally will focus on in the beginning.  The Chinese characters take a lot more work and practice to work directly in in the beginning.

So in worst case, we may have a few cases where it takes more than one try to capture the equivalent Chinese symbols. But, if you get them wrong, My Vocab will immediately let you know when it automatically looks up the Pin Yin and English translations.  And if the student didn't recognize it, the extra word ought to be added to the My Vocab list as well, so no big loss.  Bottom line is My Vocab is functional as long as one copies and pasts the Chinese characters in rather than the Pin Yin or English.

My other comment contains several other suggestions for longer-term improvements to the My Vocab editing functions as well as to Flashcards.

I used to be a CEO of a firm that bought a software company so have had a fair amount of experience doing quality testing and assurance, continuous improvement, development, and total qualify programs for software products.

Auf Weidersehen.  (or should it be Auf Weiderlesen?  I just learned the word Auf Weiderhoren.  :-)
