How to use the Modules

Hello I have a question about how it would be best to use the content here on Rocket German.

Should I first go through all the audio lessons and then go through the language and culture (L&C) ones or can I mix them within a module? I know they are numbered 1.1, 1.2 etc., but at the same time at the end of the audio lessons sometimes they recommend checking the L&C lessons for more information on a topic discussed.

What I noticed however is that the L&C lessons have some sentences which I found to be more difficult than the ones in the audio lesson and less well explained as to how they are formed.

For example I had some trouble with “Habt ihr Lust ins Kino zu gehen” which appears in lesson 1.6 of the beginner course. However, I went through 1.6 after doing only 1.1 and 1.2. I particularly struggled when doing the flashcards and write it, know it exercises. I would suppose that these exercises are meant to be done after doing a lesson and not some other time in the future after learning the vocabulary/grammar used in the examples. But if the sentences are a bit too hard for the level of German I am supposed to have at that moment, it feels more a hindrance than a help to have to go through these exercises.

tldr: Should I follow the numbering or mix the audio and L&C lessons within the same module?

Hallo,

When I tried the free trial for Rocket German it was good enough to get me interested, when I bought the full course however and could access the L&C lessons I found a more comprehensive experience. This is all to say, I would recomend following the numebering unless there is a specific L&C lesson you want to take a look at. Going out of order may cause the difficulty spike mentioned in the post and you can be missing out on important vocab and topics that might come up in later audio lessions.

Just my personal recomendation, hope this is of some help.

HI AlchEmi

I generally followed the lessons in sequence. I also went into survival phrases to increase my vocabulary. I found them very helpful, especially things like food, clothes, and the body.

Generally I don't do the write it or know it until I am really comfortable with the material. I also go back and revise, regulary. At first it was just one big blur, but as one moves forward, it all does start to fall into place. I also use other resources to help me along, but Rocket is my primary one for conversation. The grammar and cultural ones don't or can't always give you the full picture, which I find frustrating. But then no single program is perfect.

Happy learning

Maxie

Hello and thank you both for your input. I will follow the lessons as they are numbered from now on and see how that goes. I will also look into other sources so that they may complement their shortcomings.

Hi Emanuel,

Looks like the other members have already answered your question. It's best to follow the numbering, especially at the start of the course. That being said, if a particular lesson stands out to you and you're eager to check it out, go for it! But keep in mind that you might have trouble understanding the whole content as you could have missed important vocab or grammar in-between the lessons. And if you struggle with a particular sentence or word, you are always welcome to post a question here in the forum :)

Viele Grüße,

Julia
