Level 2 Difficulty

Hello,

I thought I'd leave some feedback as I'm really struggling with level 2.

I thoroughly enjoyed level 1. I always looked forward to doing it, explanations were clear and the content useful. Most importantly I found I made good progress.

Unfortunately I can't say the same for level 2. The voices are harder to listen to, there is little explanation and often the narrator goes off on a tangent with some silly story when time could be used in the lesson for proper explanation. There is often no practice in the lesson, e.g. “you could say__ or__ or__ ” and no opportunity for repetition.

The biggest issue for me though is there is a lot of content at the beginning and end of the lesson which is never explained at all but then appears in the flashcards and the other tasks. This makes it quite demoralizing when I can do the taught content from the lesson but cannot complete the practice tools at all. As an example in lesson 10.1 the first 4 sentences in the lesson vocab are part of the conversation not explained at all.

The other issue is often the passages we are asked to repeat in the lesson are multiple sentences. I wouldn't be able to repeat a full paragraph 3 sentences after just 2 hearings in my own language. So the only way of doing this is to read from the transcript (which defeats the point of an audio lesson).

I took a break for a month and have been learning with an Italki teacher to try to regain my motivation. I’ve come back to Rocket German this week with some renewed energy but have hit the same wall again. I can't help the feeling that today's hour (lesson plus activities) would have been better spent elsewhere.

I know this is coming across as a rant but if feedback isn't given then the platform can't be improved. As a teacher myself if I was setting homework (in this case the supporting exercises) that the student simply couldn't do I wouldn't expect them to wish to continue learning.

If I had not bought all 3 levels together I wouldn't be buying level 3.

It's a real shame as I found level 1 superb.

Hallo MichaelBurke,

Thank you for your feedback. We continuously strive to improve the content and usuability of our lessons and user feedback is always welcome! For example, Level 2 Language & Culture lessons were just updated about a year ago and you will find lots of improved explanations and examples to assist you with your learning. We do eventually have plans to update the Rocket German Level 2 Audio lessons as well, but since this is quite a long and involved process, we are not able to give you a time estimate on when this will be done. I will pass on your feedback to our development team and if you have any specific questions or need further explanations regarding any sentences or vocab while working on Level 2, don't hesitate to ask in the forum. We are always here to help you with your learning!

Viele Grüße,

Julia
