Hallo Donald, natürlich helfe ich gerne. a) Schenk mir noch eine Stunde - is a poetic way of saying: please spend some more time (an hour) with me. There are two German verbs that both mean "to give": "geben" and "schenken". Even though they are both translated with "to give" the concept behind "schenken" is slightly different to "geben". The verb "schenken" means that you give something to someone without wanting it back, for example a present. Also nothing is expected in return, for example you don't need to pay for it. A kiss is not considered a gift or present, therefore you use "geben" when talking about kissing for example. You could say that "schenken" is a very pure form of "geben". You give someone something because you want to do it and you don't expect anything in return. I hope that makes sense. In your example it could also be : "Schenken Sie mir noch eine Stunde", but that would be the formal version. "Geben Sie mir noch eine Stunde" would change the meaning slightly and probably wouldn't fit with the rest of the song. "Geben Sie mir noch eine Stunde" ( Give me one more hour) sounds like from a crime story. As always I am appreciative of your help. Now I am better able to understand some of the German songs which I enjoy. At the risk of being misunderstood, I will attempt some portion of the response in German. Ich verstehen dass des talents du gibst ist ein beispiel von das wort "schenken". Wann du schreiben dass ein kuss ist nicht ein beispiel von "schenken", erste ich koennte nicht verstehen, dann ich denken es ist gegenseiting und das richtige wort is "geben. b) ich werde = I become ich werde = I will es wird = it becomes es wird = it will "Wien wird schoen erst bei Nacht" = Vienna will be beautiful by night - is this the same as - Vienna becomes beautiful (only) at night? - erst bei Nacht?
