I started at level 2 as well and I found that I did make progress if I stuck with it. I have completed level 3 now but I go back and revise with play it. I find Play it most useful. Doing it with the German suppressed really drums useful phrases into my brain.
As for supplementary material, I found Nico's Weg on Deutche Welle useful. It has A1,A2 and B1 modules. It has quite a different approach to Rocket so you come at German from a different direction.
I have also found translating English into German a challenge, but the difficulty is getting it corrected. I have been doing some iTalki lessons for that. But if you can find parallel English and German texts that would be good. The Grimms Fairy tales have parallel texts free here:
https://www.grimmstories.com/de/grimm_maerchen/index
But they are quite challenging and the German is rather old fashioned.
You can find English texts at various levels here: https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/skills
But of course there are no German parallel texts
