Hi Everbody I am new to rocket German and loving it. I would like to know if listening to German tv , radio and music at such an early stage in my learning would help me. A friend told me i should be doing this first before i started Rocket German. This is what helped alot with french learning. Does anyone agree with him and have any tips and tricks of their own that you could share with me ? Many Thanks Gary W Northern Ireland

I think it depends on your level. I see you are certified so you must have a fairly good grasp of German even though you are new to Rocket. In that case, TV and radio are probably helpful. However, if you are at a basic level you won't be able to understand enough of what you hear on the radio and TV and it will be frustrating for you. At least, that is my experience.

Hi Byron Thanks for your reply, Yeah i have been trying to learn german on and off for a number of years but have failed. Due to many reasons but when i started rocket some of it came back very quick. ( basic stuff) So not all was wasted. What would your best advice for me byron because you look that you have stuck at it and gained a high level in your german. Well done by the way! Thanks pal

Hi Gary, Thank you. Same here. I've been trying off and on for years and I've been plugging away in Rocket, which I think is the best course I've taken, for several years. I don't know that I can give you any good advice. I'm on my last lesson of Platinum. I went through the first two levels twice and will probably do the same again with Platinum by way of review. I pretty much systematically work my way through the lesson plans although for a change in routine it's fun to browse the web for free podcasts or German language sites. I've also read a few dual language books and I find those to be a helpful supplement. I find that I can read basic stuff like a travel brochure fairly well but I can't follow the same material if it is spoken at a normal speaking pace. I can communicate with service people if they speak slowly and repeat words but I can't, for example, pick up a random conversation going on around me for the most part. So I need a lot more practice. I guess I would rate myself at an advanced beginner level although I have not taken a formal test.

Hi Byron I have a free dual language books as well. They are a great help but find listening to german helps me the best. I listen to the rocket audio lessons every day on mp3 at work. Your are at a nice stage of your german. Enjoy! Chat bald meiner neuer freund Deutsch Gary
