Hi there, this might be a stupid question, but how do you do the "esszett" and "Umlauts" on the computer? Thank you Jenny

Hi Jenny, it's not a stupid question at all. It took me quite a while to figure it out myself: ä= alt+0228 ö= alt+0246 ü= alt+0252 ß= alt+0223 Have fun using the forum! Nathalie P.S: It's also quite common to use ae, oe and ue instead of the Umlauts.

Just been scanning all topics. I know this topic is old but there may be some people who are not aware that if you have a language bar on your status bar (at the bottom of the screen) you can change your keyboard easily to a German keyboard. You have a language bar if you have an EN somewhere there or try this anyway. Go to Cntrl Panel->Regional and language -> Lnaguage tab ->Details -> Add -> Scroll down Input Language menu -> choose whatever language you want -> OK [-> Language Bar button -> tick first and third boxes ->] OK -> OK -> OK. (The stuff in sqare brackets may not be necessary.) Now when you left click or touch mouse pad or whatever, you can switch to whatever language keyboard you have slected above. What fun!! Perhaps you could draw up your own keyboard or find it on the internet. Note: there are alt numbers for capital umlaut letters also. Off hand I can't remember them.

Alec In case you are still monitoring this board, I want to thank you SO MUCH for this tip. I had been trying to use the language bar for so long, and didn't realize after I enabled the language, that I had to left click or use left alt + shift so I just kept thinking that it didn't work. Hurrah for you! For others, who might not have a language bar, the ALT + numbers for capitals with umlauts are 0196= Ä, 0214 = Ö, and 0220 = Ü. Regards, Caroline
