Hi everyone, I would love to hear what you think about Rocket Hindi. How has Rocket Hindi helped your learning and which features do you enjoy the most? I'm looking forward to your posts Nikita

Namaste Nikita I just bought Rocket Hindi, and I already think it looks great. I knew Rocket Languages from my husband, who bought the Rocket German course. What I don't like so much, is the fact, that the quizz after each lesson is in the english transcript and not in Devanagari. I'd prefer to read the real letters, because I am fluent in Devanagari and not used to the transcript. I think it would be better if you could choose which you prefer. At University, where I learned Sanskrit we use this kind of transcript: for example haiM would be hai? and aa would be ?... But other than that it looks really good and I'm looking forward to learn some Hind?. (Sorry by the way for any spelling mistakes, but I am not an English Nativ speaker...) All the best Sabrina

Namaskar Sabrina, thank you for your comments. We thought having the romanized script will help beginners to get a feel for the language as most people are not fluent in Devanagari. Congratulations to you, it's great that you are fluent in it and it will certainly help a lot. Let us know how you get on. Your next post might be in Hindi? Nikita

Hiii... I am really enjoying the course. Just a query in the megahindi. I think the directions are wrong for the pictures. Baayaan should be left and daahinaa should be right but they are the opposite way around to what the pictures say ? Have I got it wrong? :? Thanks heaps Kiwi

Namaste Kiwi, Oops! You are absolutely correct! That is a bit tricky to fix simply, but I've passed the error onto our development team and it will be corrected as soon as possible. Thanks for pointing out our error and we'll get it remedied as soon as we can. :) Nikita

I just started using this program and am very happy with it. The lessons are great, the record option is the most helpful thing I have found in language learning. I also really appreciate the language and culture section, a great option for deeper understanding. I can not wait to spend more time learning! I do agree with the first poster about the romanized script vs Devanagari. I am not fluent in the latter, but (with the previous programs I have used) I found it easiest to understand the new writing style when learning to recognize patterns that match sounds. I do understand that this program is focused on speaking, but an option change texts back and forth would be wonderful.

Nameskar Nikita, Rocket Hindi has helped me understand conversations by context instead of individual words by using them in sentences rather than individual words. It helps a lot learning the grammar. I'm having fun learning and can't wait to feel like I could manage on my own if I had to.

I just start using the program and I have some concerns about the material. Unlike English, Hindi is a Subject-Object-Verb language. So instead of saying "I eat apples" in Hindi it would be "I apples eat." Similarly, for the phrase "How are you" it would be "You how are", which translates into "Aap kaise hai." However, in the first lesson it says that it is OK to say "Kaise hai aap." This is very confusing for a beginner because you are breaking the fundamental structure of the language. So it leads one to ask why is this OK, and when can the structure be broken? My other concern is how realistic are the phrases we are learning? For example, my Hindi speaking friends tell me that no one ever says "Dhanyavad" in day to day speech. Similarly, do people actually say "Suprabhat" and "Shubh Sandya", etc..? It just seems too academic and not realistic. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the above topics. Thanks.

Hi Arvind R1 Thank you for your post. I agree with you about Word Order in Hindi. Hindi word order is different from English word order. The most important difference is that the verb or verbal phrase almost always goes at the end of the sentence. In general, Hindi word order follows the following pattern: Subject + Modifiers/Object + Verb(Verbal Phrase) Examples: My name Deepa is. मेरा नाम दीपा है । Merā nām dīpā hai. These tomatoes cheap are. ये टमाटर सस्ते हैं । ye ṭamāṭar saste haim. Below is a copy from lession 1.0 Introduction आप कैसे हैं? / कैसे है आप? āpa kaisē haĩ? / kaisē haĩ āpa? How are you? (speaking to a man) I think the first example is correct. The second example does not sound right.है is a typo. The correct spelling is हैं I don't blame you for being confused. I am confused too. Maybe Hari can clalrify this. Have fun learning Hindi JohnH8

Hi Arvind R1 Point one, yes, it is sometimes confusing when you hear the same sentence being said in 2 different ways, but I strongly believe and suggest that you do not take these chapters as the sole reference to your Hindi vocabulary. These chapters are just a guide to learn Hindi. I am sure that as you go ahead with the course and get to familiarize yourself with the language, you would know what to use and when to use it. Also, try listening to Hindi songs, and movies with subtitles which would also help in grasping the language. Point two, I also agree that there are some terms, which you kindly mentioned, are obsolete. we are moving towards upgrading the course so that we keep it updated with the current scenario. If you have any doubts or queries, feel free to post in the forums and I shall get back to you with the answers asap. have fun learning Hindi.
