What is the difference between jaanna and pata to know something

As in मैं जानता हूँ vs मुझे पता हैं

I think janna is for people and places and pata is for everything else?

Am I correct in my understanding?

मैं जानता हूँ ।  - I know
मुझे पता हैं  ।-  I know
Both have same meaning in this example.

जानता and पता  both can be used for people, places and others.

पता  means address also.
What is his address?  - उसका पता क्या है ?

Please give me examples where पता is more appropriate and where जानता is more appropriate to express knowledge.

e.g. I know Mr Patel is a good man
or I used to know Mr Patel before he died
or I know what the capital of Pakistan is
or I used to know all the capitals of all the states in India
