ee ki matra choti or badi

Hi I have a question. I am not a native hindi speaker but i understand most of the words and know how to speak, but while writing I always get confused with which matra of ee to use whether choti matra or badi matra.. is there any rule for this apart from getting it from the way we pronounce as i always get it wrong most of the time. which type of the matra is more common in hindi so that when in doubt i will use the most common one in exam

Hi Ajith the simplest way is to say it in english and see if you are stressing on the i/e sound. if you are then its a badi ee and if not then its a chotti e. for example, your name is Ajith ( A-ji-th) so it would have a chotti i as अजित. you dont pronounce your name as A-jee-th, in which case there would have been a badi ee. another example, if you take the word tamarind in hindi which is इमली.. you would sound it as im-lee and you would use a badi ee the second time and start with a chotti e. hope this has cleared the confusion a bit. let me know if there is still any clarifications to be done.

hi Ajith it is very difficult to say as to which matra is common. i believe all the matras are equally used.
