In the expression पहली जून '1st June', why is पहली feminine?
Deven--3 देवन--३

Deven--3 देवन--३

Because जून is feminine. पहली has to agree with the gender of what it's describing. If the word was describing a masculine word, it would be पहला.

Hi Deven,

जून is masculine gender. पहली is an adjective modifies the word day(date) तरीख tarīkh noun, feminine gender.
June is month.
First is day or date.
There is another word for day is दिन(din) noun, masculine gender.
First is understood to be a date(day) therefore the word  तरीख tarīkh is not shown.
पहली is feminine because it agrees with तरीख tarīkh which is feminine.

Hi Sudhanshu,

Thank you for your correction. I found तरीख in hindi-english.org  dictionary. It is definitely a misspelled word.
