I looked up these words that you gave in the Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary by R.S. McGregor. Both words contain dotted consonant.
ख़ुश - happiness(word origin:Persian)
ख़ुशी - happy(word origin:Persian)
I also found: सुख - sukh (m) -happiness(Sanskrit origin)
सुखी -sukhī (adj) -happy (Sanskrit orgin)
