I know they have earthquakes.  They had a 6.1 quake last week.  But the buildings are built with earthquake support and protection.  I've never been there, but I've seen the city on TV Japan, and it has some nice shopping, eating, and cultural places.

Yes, I also love history of all kinds.  I've seen some programs on TV Japan about the shoguns and all the wars.  Very interesting, even though my vocabulary and grammar are limited at this point.

From what I understand, shoguns were appointed by the Emperor to help him rule different areas of Japan and to fight enemies.  However, apparently, they did a lot of fighting with each other, sometimes even against the Emperor.  They were in power from the 1100-1800s.  I have seen many programs on TV Japan on weekends about the battles.  Of course, I imagine there may be some artistic liberty taken with movies.  Anyway, I found it all very interesting.  I really need to find a Japanese history book to study!  If I went to Japan, one of the first things I would do would be to find a museum and learn more about the shoguns.

I visited Japan for the first time this summer (Tokyo, Kyoto) with my girlfriend who has already been there many times. I loved Tokyo in particular. Amazing city and vibe. My hometown NYC is boring in comparison. Our potential long-term plan is to move to Japan in which case we would need to learn the language sufficiently to get around there. She's currently using a private tutor but I've told her about Rocket.
