I plan to travel to Japan in 2021 and I am wondering which place(s) will be the best to visit when I go there. I will be there for a week or so during the cherry blossom season. There will be a group of 4-5 people coming with me and the plan is to stay at one of the military bases (here is the list of all the bases: https://www.dodlodging.com/html/japan.htm). With this in mind, I am striving to find a very traditional and historical place in Japan with lesser crowds, a lot of seafood and other fresh foods (not fried since some of us are gluten free), castles and temples, and an overall calm and inviting place. I would appreciate it if someone presents me with ideas on the places I could travel to in Japan.

Have you seen the website Japan-guide.com it has a map style list with all the details of places that make it easy to select good places.
Taiji is at least one place that strikes me as extremely remote with less crowds and good with seafood.
