Konnichiwa! I just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself - I'm Rob and decided after a couple of years solidly studying "geek" stuff (I am a software engineer), I've decided I need to spent more time doing fun stuff. :) Learning Japanese is the first on the list! So I have (literally) just purchased RL Japanese (RL came highly recommended from a Lithuanian colleague who used it to help learn English BTW) and can't wait to get started and more involved with the community! 8) Arigatō! いらっしゃい!(Welcome!) Good luck with your studies and do your best! 頑張ってください!(Gannbattekudasai!) In my signature you can find some useful study tools that I have found that are great aids to supplementing/making your life easier in regards to studying the Japanese language. Personally I suggest you get to work on Kana first, trying to learn Japanese without kana is like trying to learn english without knowing your ABCs. それではまたね、 デレック

Hello everyone. I would also like to introduce myself but didn't want to start another thread. I went to Japan last year from the UK and it was the best thing I have ever done- the only regret being I couldn't speak any Japanese (apart from knowing the basics for hello, thank you etc...) So decided that had to change and found a recommendation to try Rocket Japanese and I'm glad I did. It's really good and I listen to to the Audio in the Car to and from work which is really helping me pick up the basics. I really want to try and speak to people while I'm there as everyone was really friendy and I couln't believe how many people would go out there way to help me and friend get around (anywhere outside Tokyo where there wasn't much english) We visited Mount Fuji, Kyoto (even got a tour around the Emperial Palace) Nagano- to go and see the Snow Monkeys and went to see the big Buddha Statue at Kamakuru where we met some lovely school childen who wanted their photo taken with us! So you never know there could be a photo of me and my friend in a Japanese school somewhere! _http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_EKwAOxfa1YE/SsNYaKFVvKI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Gn_VZkcGmNQ/s400/DSC01183.JPG_ So if anyone was thinking about visiting Japan I would seriously recommend it- The Key is to buy a Japanese Railpass and you can just about get anywhere! So good compared to transport back in the UK! -Brendan

Arigato, Sayaka-San. I will be sure to post if I have any problems- So far I am up to lesson 1.5 but go back to the other lessons from time to time to make sure I am remembering the words and phrases correctly :) Derek, I am sure you will have a great time in Japan. How long will you be staying there?
