right vs left

Hi . Today I have started my first lesson and have a very basic question: when watching the video and following the person on screen-I realize I am mirroring the person, but then they would be using the opposite hand. Is this correct and are they signing backwards so I can see the proper sequence?  Thank you for this clarification.
