Counting in German is pretty straightforward, there are however rules that must be followed, particularly with the higher numbers like the ones we cover in todays lesson! Let's get started with some numbers between 36 and 102 before moving on to much larger numbers!

Once you master the basic pattern, you can construct any number.
For example:
vierundfünfzig
54 (= 4+50)
dreiundvierzig
43 (= 3+40)
achtundneunzig
98 (= 8+90)
siebenundsiebzig
77 (= 7+70)
sechsundachtzig
86 (= 6+80)
zweiundsechzig
62 (= 2+60)
neunundvierzig
49 (= 9+40)
When talking about numbers between 100 and 999 always start with the first digit + a hundred and then read the last two digits starting from the right.

zwei Millionen (2.000.000)
2,000,000
hundert Millionen (100.000.000)
100,000,000
For example:
einhundertfünfunddreißig
135 (= 100+35)
zweihundertsiebenundvierzig
247 (= 2+100+47)
dreihundertneunundsiebzig
379 (= 3+100+79)
It’s the same with numbers above 1000. Say all the digits starting from the left apart from the last two digits. Say the last two starting from the right.
For example:
zweitausendachthundertneunund sechzig
2869 (= 2000+800+69)
siebentausendsechshundertdreiund zwanzig
7623 (= 7000+600+23)
fünftausendundeinundvierzig
5041 (= 5000+41)

Bis bald!
