Just completed Duolingo - learned a lot of vocabulary and got a crash course in grammar. However, I'm completely at a loss when attempting to make conversation. I can tell immediately that this course is the right next step after Duolingo.
The review by Debora Inklaar is pretty accurate but typically too cheesy american to be impartial. My own assessment having previously attended an evening class for three terms is that Rocket Italian is a better option. i'm getting on fine with it. Your implanted review doesn't need to be so cheesy,

At the moment, unfortunately I did not have the chance to practice my French, but I am sure it will be great support...No doubt about it...Italian will positively be handy . Both will contribute a lot to my achievements and personal satisfaction as well. Sources that I made use of them, were quite practical from the life outside itself..Listening versions that were accessible were fantastic.....I have alreadty reccommended all the respective pages to my relatives and friends without no hesitataions.... Hope it will create the same responses as well. Thanks once more to all...
I started learning italian last year with duolingo, and found it pretty good especially as it's free. But it wasn't helping me much decoding real spoken italian. This is where rocket really scores: it drills you mercilessly at both listening and speaking. And it doesn't provide a 'slow' setting for the many speaking exercises - which is forcing me to focus on the natural running together of words encountered when listening to real speech.
I paid about £80 for levels 1 and 2 courses, which was a recent special offer. Excellent value for money.
The basic principles used by rocket seem very good indeed. Of course I can see all sorts of improvements could be made, but these would require serious resources and no doubt raise the cost. Well done rocket.

Took the plunge and bought the complete package after a couple of days of trying the free course. The price is good when you put it against classes, though the classes do help with one on one conversation. Before I started the courseI had some very, and I mean very, basic Italian and struggled with general conversation now, even after less than a month I feel my usage has improved. I have used Duolingo, and still do, it was useful for me and helped me when I moved to Rocket Italian. I am thoroughly enjoying the Rocket Italian Course - finished two modules and looking forward to much more. There are some minor quirks with the technology but nothing to throw me off the course. Sometimes after doing the test the completed doesn't activate and I need to exit to lessons then resume test again and do the one item that the system thinks I haven't done. I use it across three platforms, Android Phone, IPad and Windows 10 laptop, which is great as I have access wherever I am and what I have done seems to sync well across the platforms. The interface works well and I find it very easy to use and navigate. The course Material itself is good and even after using duolingo and also some other programs I find I am learning constantly with this course. The badges are great little motivators, though I do think they come a little easy. I definitely recommend the program.
Rocket Italian is the most comprehensive Language course, easy to navigate, just easy to use for fastest results. I just wish I had more time to put into it. I would be further along than I am. Thank you Rocket Italian for all of your help in making me more efficient and proficient in learning the most beautiful language which is Italian.
I am working with Rocket_Italian for about a month now - and love it. Despite the fact that it's an audio course I am actually retaining a lot. The many different exercises focusing on "recall" help one pay attention. Grammar is explained well ... but it's not overwhelming. The speakers are fun to listen to ... and the culture remarks offer some interesting insights. Overall, a great program. I wished I had had something like that when I struggled through learning Spanish "the traditional way". Keep up the good work.
Re flash cards: it would help to have pictures in addition to sound to make them "stick better". Maybe this can be added where appropriate?

Honestly, I really enjoy the interactive component of the course. It not only allows you to engage with the language and therefore better understand it, but most importantly, it gets you ready for the conversational aspect of any language. Furthermore, I particularly appreciated the audio lessons which explain the pronunciations, their rationales, and their connection to their english equivalents. Finally, the written exercises are particularly helpful to get one's written and not simply oral skills up to par.
The one deterrent I have from the program is it's cost. Being a student, I don't have a particularly high budget and with competing programs such as Duolingo, it might be hard to justify the purchase. That being said, the trial thus far has given me a taste of the real package that is Rocket Languages. It truly is comprehensive and well developed. I truly hope that completing the entire program does make one somewhat proficient in the language as it is quite an expense.
A final note has to be the aesthetics, design and appearance of the website. The site is polished, clean and well organized. It breads for a simple and user friendly experience. Very appealing and enticing to any user.
My overall impression of the level 1 program is that, with the exception of vocabulary, and the present tense, Rocket Italian Level 1 is very weak on teaching the student Italian grammar. An example of this is the use of prepositions. These seem to pop up everywhere with no explanation as to the rules governing their use (like the use of "di" which has at least 15 different meanings!), Level 1 aggravates this problem by frequently giving you lengthy Italian phrases in th flash cards & the "Know It" section to memorize. These contain grammatical structures that are never addressed in the course. Also, it makes no provision for different responses that the student may have translated correctly even though it is different from the translation in the course.
I would suggest they introduce a grammatical rule give some examples, & and then drills on that rule. The drills would also incorporate review of a verb tense. This would reinforce the latter and help us master both until they become second nature.
Instead, we waste enormous amounts of time memorizing lengthy sentences with no idea of the grammatical rules which govern the sentences. These are sentences which we will never use and quickly forget.

This is a great site to help you learn a language. I am using it to learn Italian, having grown up around the language, i thought I already knew the basics, but this has helped me to learn how to speak properly and learn even more! It's very thorough in it's explanations of why certain words are used and how to learn the correct grammar and forms of the words. The voice recognition is an excellent tool in helping you to make sure your pronunciation is correct. It works best with headphones and helps to point out which parts of a sentence you are saying incorrectly, then you can mark it easy or hard so you can come back to it later if you need more practice. They also have a wonderful app that allows you to practice on the go! Honestly without the app, i might never get on to practice, i’m usually too lazy to actually get onto the computer so the app has been fantastic. You can do everything on the app that you can on the website. Customer service is great, I had trouble using the app at first so i sent an email and got a very quick reply. They are also open to suggestions on what you think can be improved so that you can learn easier. Money well spent!
