Summary: It is most important to start SPEAKING a language as soon as possible to get comfortable with it. I think that Rocket does a decent job getting you ready with some key phrases, pronunciation, and review, but it overloads the learner with too much new vocabulary per lesson.
Format: I really like the audio format in a nice progressive pace and it's less 'cluttered' than the popular pod101 program. The review material is very well rounded, using audio, writing practice, spanish - english and english - spanish practice, plus flashcards (english - spanish).
Overall audio quality: Try the trial to hear them speak. Decide for yourself. In my opinion, Mauricio has a good accent and Carmen speaks slowly. Amy is a dork and I get a little tired of hearing her voice. Her Spanish makes me cringe. The "repeat after me" can be very rushed and I have to pause so that I get a chance to actually repeat a phrase.
Workload: The dialogues can be quite long (some almost 45 minutes!) and the practice has WAY too much vocabulary to absorb for one lesson. I'm currently doing a lesson in Level 2 that has 117 words.
I previously purchased Rocket Italian and learned quite a bit in preparation for travel. I'm now onto Rocket German as a refresher: many years ago, I learned German. In my experience, using Rocket as a refresher course has been particularly effective. Sometimes the pacing of the lessons can be a bit overwhelming (especially around verbs). For instance, in the Italian course, occasionally, a huge amount of information would be dumped on the learner, and it became a matter of learning by rote. Overall, however, I think Rocket Languages are a very satisfying way to learn languages and feel more a part of the rest of the world. I think the pricing is more than reasonable.
The free trial was very good. Elected to purchase 1st set based on the free trial. Had some issues with unlocking the purchased due to my error. This was pointed out by a very helpful customer service person, however, it did take sometime for a response. Got very frustrated waiting for a response after several emails, / customer help calls.
Once unlocked my account works really well. The lessons are on point and user friendly. Strongly recommend.
Very disappointed in this product. Trial was very good. Purchased Step #1 with coupon. Have not received access nor response to my many emails. Feel like I was suckered. Again Free Trial very good. Enticing once paid nothing. Again maybe a glitch. No response from Customer Service opens the door for negative assumptions
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Tom - Thanks a lot for your feedback. Our Customer Support Team has contacted you to get your access sorted.
I bought Rocket French, Spanish, and Portuguese, and am thrilled with it. I rarely write review, but my husband and I were just enjoying it (in preparation for a sabbatical year in Spain and France) and we are grateful we have this (as a lifetime resource no less).
Sorry, it is too early for me to give you a review of your course.
Can I use Whatsapp instead of opening the computer to view your course?
I am not sure I would buy it again, and I am not sure .......
the live chat is awesome its helpful and you are talking to a friendly person it is the best they are nice and they help you find free lessons so you dont have to pay and they undersand everything that you say,and you can learn any language.I love this website
I enjoy the conversations that Rocket Italian is based on, but as a language instructor that uses strictly immersion techniques, I can't stand the amount of English that is in each lesson. There is SO much room for additional vocab that could be taught through the use of more exclusive Italian. It makes me frustrated to waste so much time on English banter. I am really struggling to make use of this course.
Response from Rocket Languages
Hi Megan - Thanks for your review. There is undoubtedly a lot of explanation in Level 1 of Rocket Italian. If the material is too easy then we would swap you out to a higher level that has much less English in it!
Very good format in general. However a few recordings are distorted and difficult to hear and a small number have volume variations.
The tools facility is very good. The flash cards sometimes remain blank until you press reveal,
On the benchmark test the word to be spoken sometimes does not appear and therefore defeats the purpose of the test.
Rocket Languages is a very good program overall. I have only recently started using it but am finding it a very good way to learn a language. There are several different ways to use the program to learn like writing, pronunciation, flashcards etc
I can't. I have just started some days ago. To say something awesome so soon after starting should be carefully evaluated. Studying Chinese isn't easy. Maybe I have something positive to say at the end of my first course. Thank you.
