Great program to get started if you do not know Japanese at all. Good for beginner to intermediate. I haven't utilized the site long enough to see all the resources it has, but i do think it is convenient that it has an app that operates the same way as the site on a PC.
It's always fun to get on and learn new thing. It's actually helped me grow a lot this year in Spanish compared to last year. And i can use it when ever and where ever. And i like how it has different levels for each stage and how it quizzes what you know. But it is also very easy to cheat on. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a new language besides Spanish too.
This is my first time using the computer exclusively to attempt to learn Spanish, or study any subject, really. So far, I find it very satisfactory.
I'm having a little difficulty with the Spanish keyboard is there not an "inverted" ?
Response from Rocket Languages
If you are using the keyboard on Write it! just click the "Shift" button and ¿ will be at top right of the keyboard. Alternatively, this article should help with additional Spanish characters https://sites.google.com/a/orono.k12.mn.us/studenttech/foreign-language/creating-spanish-characters-and-accent-marks-on-a-windows-keyboard
This course is excellent for blending vocabulary, grammar and phraseology all together and learning them by practical, applied techniques as you progress along. This is a very applied course where you learn by German used in real life situations, rather than just by the learning of vocabulary and some how bolting it together by grammar. You learn by phrases and pick up the vocabulary and grammar as you go on.
As a fluent German speaking friend said to me, it's all about learning the phrases. This makes for much more fun and pleasure in learning and satisfaction in being able to speak useful things in ever day situations in German from the start of the course.
Well,my experience learning languages by way or Rocket Languages,is very efective. While a try to learn German, for example, all the instrucctios are in English...So, I learnn to much for the tranversal or inter-connecting languages. If you study methodically you'll get a great success.
Rally,is very good , it brings you many advantages, just to study almost forever..
This is just what i have been looking for. Can't believe how easy the lessons are to understand. Also the price is extremely good. I am looking forward to increasing my Hindi language which at the moment is quite poor because i was unable to find a course that i could use and understand. Thankyou very much!
Unlike Rosetta stone this teaches you things you can actually use and provides actual instruction. There is a good mixture of interactive audio lessons, activities, flash cards, review and more. It's nice to hear a native speaker and a non native (American) one too. I enjoy that this include some cultural pointers too. I can avoid ordering the wrong type of coffee for the wrong time of day! The mobile app seems a bit unresponsive. This has led me to doing most things on my Mac and listening to the audio portion on my iPhone on the way to work. I took a couple of years of Italian in college and this is a good way to learn all I forgot. It's helpful to have an explanation of some of the literal phases. Overall, great product for the money.
As a language educator for almost 20 years, I can really appreciate the hard work that has gone into the Rocket courses. One part that stands out is the dialogs with the sentence focus and the interactivity with them. The conversations seem quite useful and the 'extra vocabulary' (read: extra expressions) for each lesson are great. When learning any language, improving vocabulary is necessary (of course), the key is doing so in the context of sentences and life-like situations which make them truly more memorable and enjoyable! Rocket does that.
Suggestions to further improve the experience would be:
- Using the audio from section "6. Play it!" provide an additional download 'button' for the role-play's audio only, this is in addition to the entire lesson with the English explanations like you do at the start of each lesson. That would be so helpful to listen to and playback while in the car or on the bus etc.
- 75% speed button for dialogs. Having the option to go a little slower with some of the sentences is really handy to pick up on the exact sounds and then reproduce them.
- End of module review of some type. It could be simply a random selection of content from each subsection and exercise type.
Response from Rocket Languages
-The role play tracks are available, all stitched together in one track. They are in the last Module of each Level. -Noted. The issue is to get this working consistently across all the different browsers and devices. It is something we are looking at. -There are Rocket Certification tests at the end of each Module. Just look at My Dashboard. Note that we recently added a Benchmark test, which is available under My Tools > My Progress Keep up the good work!
I've been using Rocket Spanish for several years now and if I was able to stick to it, I would be fluent by now as it is a very good program. My problem with sticking with it isn't a problem with Rocket Spanish, but my problem of not setting aside enough time to do it. The lessons get progressively longer and I don't like to do a partial lesson. I want to complete the entire lesson in one sitting and I don't have time so tend not to do it at all. I know I need to let this go. Gratefully, Rocket Spanish is still there waiting for me.
I wish every lesson was interactive and I could learn to to pronounce big words and phrases slowly. This way I would be able to speak with a more clear pronunciation. I would feel more confident and excited about studying.
