I have wanted to learn Spanish for many years, and have started several other programs but was unsuccessful. I purchased Rocket Spanish one year ago and have been studying faithfully and diligently nearly every day since. I thought that I would be fluent in a year or so. I now see how optimistic, actually unrealistic, that goal was. Learning another language is difficult, and it is a long term process. However, Rocket Spanish has kept me engaged and looking forward to each day's lesson, which I think is one of its advantages. I am glad that I found Rocket Languages, and I think it is a great value for the price.
It's very interactive and easy to understand, though the initial directions were a little confusing--but only a little. Pronunciation is exact and (so far) easy to imitate. I wait until your speaker has finished so I can more accurately hear if I've mimicked him/her. And having the written Italian along with the pronunciation is helpful.
So far it seems to be just what I wanted. Learning to speak and understand common phrases. The chance to hear myself say the phrases is very helpful. It is also very convenient. I will be continuing lessons via blutooth while I commute.
Es buno aunque aveces como que no teb escuch y tienes q repetir varias vexes , Unque no es ran malo porque practicas tu pronunciation
I found the first level excellent. Both presenters were extremely clear. I'm on to the intermediate course now though and finding it much tougher. It's the same female presenter and she's excellent, but the male presenter in this course is really difficult to understand, pronouncing words considerably differently from the original. They also leave way too little time to repeat the phrases in this one on the first attempt. The second seems to be ok. I've timed the first and in a lot of cases they leave less time than it took for them to say it, so hopeless for me as a beginner! A bit pricey, but overall it seems to be working.
So far so good :-) Working at my own pace through the Introduction and am starting to get an 'ear' for Hindi.
The Rocket Record function is great to help you get the intonation right. One thing I'm figuring out is how to say things naturally instead of like a robot so I'm playing around and experimenting with what I'm learning.
I've been using Rocket for the past month along with a couple other language programs (Pimsleur, transparent, Duolingo, and Memrise) to boost my learning of Portuguese. Overall, I really like Rocket. The ability to download the audio is a big help as I commute a lot. The audio training is not as in depth as Pimsleur, but it is very good. The variety of lessons and the ability to jump around is great. The leader board helps to provide incentive to keep practicing which helps. Also, the entire program is very well rounded.
I sometimes have trouble with the record audio but it works most of the time. It is nice to be able to hear your own voice and compare to the teachers for accuracy. My biggest complaint with Rocket Portuguese is with the male speaker (Paulo). His pronunciation of words ending in "s" has a very harsh "sh" sound which is completely different from the female teacher and every other audio teacher I have heard. Words like "Bem vindos" which has a soft "os" ending are pronounced like "Bem vindoosh". I can understand that Paulo may be from a different part of Brazil and perhaps it is pronounced that way there. However, when every other teacher pronounces it with a soft ending you want to practice and mimmic the right way.
Overall, this is a great program and I plan on becoming conversationally fluent with Portuguese with Rocket's help.
As with any language, immersion and conversation will get you the farthest, but Rocket Spanish does a good job at giving you a wide range of vocabulary and practice with the spoken language. The reinforcement tools can seem tedious at times, but repetition and commitment is vital to learning a new language. Get it on sale and it is totally worth your time and energy.
Overall, I'm very satisisfied with the product and approach so far, particularly coming from 7 months of Duolingo. It is a significant upgrade in experience over Duolingo. It has the right balance of drill and practice and grammar fundamentals, in the context of a conversation-driven leaning style. It seems natural and well thought out. I truly appreciate that I can skip what I want in deference to things I already know. I know I will soon get to things I will not be able to skim or skip and I look forward to that. The "say it" element of the structure is excellent. It is forcing me to speak, which is exactly what Duolingo does not do well. I have lots of words and lots of conjugations, but on the spot I am like a deer in the headlights, and Rocket's style forces you to just "talk", mistakes and all, which is great. The speed and clarity of the voice actors is excellent and it makes listening easy and approachable. The rolling text approach on screen is great, as I can look at the scroll when I want to and look away (to test myself better) when I don't want to.
A couple of constructive things to say.
