I have liked the program so far but here are my main criticisms:
First, the pacing. I wouldn't say I like having 5 audio lessons consecutively and then 5 language and culture lessons in a row. I prefer to have one audio and one language and culture lesson each time. I also wish these two types of lessons were more related and interconnected. they seem so disjointed and irrelevant right now.
I also wish that there was some sort of spaced repetition feature for reviewing previously learned vocabulary and materials. Therefore I have to manually make flashcards in another program (Anki) for this which is a little cumbersome than having them readily available.
I would like to see some new features for exercising the learned vocabulary and grammar instead of just repeating the limited number of sentences in each lesson and requiring the students to form and come up with new sentences.
Response from Rocket Languages
Thank you, Mohammad! You've raised some great points! We have a testing activity called the Rocket Certification tests in the Tools area for revisiting covered content. The course is divided into different lesson types for flexibility, so there's no fixed way to progress through it. You can switch between lesson types as you see fit! We understand the need for a stronger connection between Language and Culture, and Audio lessons, and we're working on incorporating this into our newer courses. We always value user feedback, so if you'd like to discuss anything in more detail, feel free to contact us at [email protected]!
pretty easy to follow and complete course, I love it so far. I would only like for the voice recognition to be a little more accurate and to have random automatic repetition of the lessons to recap previous concepts.
I like this program because it touches all the bases (reading, writing, listening and speaking), introduces very usable vocabulary from the start and I really like the cultural and grammar part. The storyline is entertaining.
The only thing that I don't like is the sound quality in the exercises, I have to replay the words/sentences nearly every time because of the stuttering playback. The second time is perfect.
I have only done the first 5 or so lesson and have already seen improvement in my Spanish speaking abilities. Most of the vocabulary had been very applicable to general conversation. This has been a good starting place for me. I use on my computer and on the app. I have found that both have solid benefits. They are slightly different. The app has more features that I wish the web version had. But I don't feel like I am lacking when using either of them. 10/10 would recommend. This has been a solid start and has kept me interested in learning.
The speaking does not always match correctly. You can perfectly pronounce a word and still get it wrong, which is frustrating as it holds your progress until you give up. Meine Frau ist Deutsch.
This is a well-structured course that emphasizes four skills. I am multilingual and have taught languages. I find this online course to be a "competent teacher."
Its pretty good, you rank up faster then you actually learn, so the system calls me a "Master" but I am no where near that level. but other than that, its pretty good. love the interaction, and I feel like I am really progressing in Español
I am learning russian. A very hard language. The courses are good, but i have just begun. I like that when I mispronounce a word, it shows me the spelling of the sounds i am making. That way, i can see how my pronunciation would be spelled,. especially since my pronunciation is terrible. I am learning slowly. I like the program, I do wish it did each of the of the alphabet sounds with me before going into words so that i could more easily memorize the alphabet. and that there were flashcards of just the alphabet.
Rocket seems to be the best I've seen with audio and pronunciation practice. While competitors (which I also use) focus on vocab and visual learning, Rocket actually tells you the rules, what every detail and nuance is, and what and why it is that way, which makes remember how to use those vocab words much more useful. I wish there was more visual learning included, but it's been not too big of an issue for me.
I can read French and chose Rocket French because I needed to learn how to pronounce the language correctly and acquire conversational skills for an upcoming visit to France. The course meets these needs and is well structured; words and grammar from early lessons come back in later ones to reinforce what I've learned (or forgotten). The phone app is especially valuable because it uses speech recognition to grade my pronunciation and catch my errors; I wish the browser version did this as well.
The user interface makes it easy for me to report problems and the staff is very responsive in either referring them to the development team or clarifying things I misunderstood.
