Fishing is one of the favorite outdoor activities for Russians, and it’s not without reason! Russia has more than 100,000 rivers and some two million fresh and saltwater lakes, with the largest body of fresh water in the world, Lake Baikal. No country in the world can surpass Russia’s 37,653 kilometers of coastline. It’s no wonder that fish dishes are always present on a Russian menu.
In this lesson, we’ll talk about various types of рыба (ryba) in Russian. Some of these you might find on a plate garnished with lemon, and some you might see on a fishing trip! Either way, this is important vocabulary to know while traveling.
